The Role of the Adiwiyata Program in Fostering Environmental Awareness at MI Muhammadiyah Ajibarang Kulon

The Adiwiyata Program is an environmental education strategy that aims to foster a culture of environmental awareness in schools through habit formation, school community participation, and the integration of ecological values into learning. This study explores the role of the Adiwiyata Program at MI Muhammadiyah Ajibarang Kulon using a descriptive qualitative approach through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results show that the program is implemented through Clean Friday activities, tree planting, waste management, healthy eating habits, plastic reduction, and the integration of environmental education into learning. Students' environmental awareness is evident in their habits of maintaining cleanliness, sorting waste, caring for plants, and conserving energy. This program is supported by the principal, teachers, committee, and parents, but there are still obstacles in the form of limited facilities and inconsistent student behavior. This study provides an overview of the role of the Adiwiyata Program in shaping environmentally conscious character and its contribution to the development of environment-based character education.
