The Transformation of Islamic Education and the Theology of Liberation by K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid: the Role of the Darussalam Banyumas Islamic Boarding School in Building a Just Society

This study examines the transformation of Islamic education at the Darussalam Islamic Boarding School in Banyumas through the application of K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid's liberation theology. This study highlights how the boarding school integrates Islamic teachings with practical skills and digital technology to prepare students to face modern challenges while maintaining Islamic values. Data was collected through a qualitative case study approach, using participatory observation and interviews with administrators and students. The results show that Darussalam Banyumas has successfully combined religious education with skills such as entrepreneurship and digital literacy, in line with Wahid's focus on freedom of thought and social justice. This approach fosters critical thinking and social awareness in students. This study concludes that the integration of traditional Islamic education with modern skills equips students to contribute to an inclusive and just society, serving as a model for contemporary Islamic education in Indonesia.
